Are There Side-Effects To Non-Natural Acne Treatments? Query
Asked, Query Answered
The most widespread skin disorder is acne. Appearing in the
form of blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples, acne is most
commonly seen on the face, as well as the back, neck and
chest of people who suffer from the condition. Initially
striking in puberty, acne affects 75% of teens, and can be
quite severe for some. It isn't limited to teens, however -
50% of adult women, and 25% of adult men suffer from
adult-onset acne. Being such a universal problem, countless
have wondered, "Are There Side-Effects To Non-Natural Acne
Treatments?".
More than just the social stigma of our teen years, acne
can be a serious health issue for many people, leaving
permanent scars. Giving the appearance of small indentations
in the skin, acne scars are often monikered "Icepick scars".
As the lesions heal, scars are created when an excessive
amount of collagen accumulates in that spot.
As you might suspect with such a wide-spread health issue,
there a plethora of treatments available. Over the counter
(OTC) non-natural acne medications such as gels, lotions,
and cleansing solutions tend to have side effects that
include irritated, burning, or red skin because they usually
contain alcohol which dries out the skin.
In serious cases of acne, doctors often recommend
prescription medications. These often have even more side
effects. Prescription treatments such as topical and oral
antibiotics can stain your teeth and actually create
cavities. Other side effects include intestinal problems,
rashes, light sensitivity, autoimmune disorders,
hypersensitivity syndromes, and abnormal skin pigmentations.
Additionally, the overuse of antibiotics can make them
ineffective against bacteria in time, as bacteria become
resistant.
Many health conscious people are side-stepping the long
list of side effects of non-natural acne treatments, opting
instead for natural treatments. For example, lemon juice or
orange juice is a terrific astringent, and can be applied
with a cotton ball.
Filled with sulfur - an excellent natural antibiotic, fresh
garlic is a surprisingly effective treatment for acne. Slice
a clove of garlic in half and rub it gently over the
affected area. Alternatively, you can smash the clove and
steep it in very warm water, then apply the water with a
cotton ball or clean cloth.
Another natural acne treatment is the raw potato. Cut it
and rub the flat surface on your face. The potassium, sulfur
and phosphorus contained in the potato is very beneficial
for your skin. The pulp of the potato contains starch,
enzymes and Vitamin C. Cure acne breakouts fast with grated
potato pulp rubbed onto the skin.
Witch Hazel is a natural astringent produced from the plant
by the same name. This amazing solution was historically
used by the Native American Indians to treat sprains,
strains, bruises, and even bleeding and internal injuries.
We now use Witch Hazel to treat acne, minor skin irritation
and itching, and eye injuries. Because Witch Hazel has both
healing and treatment properties, it is effective in
reducing inflammation, quickly healing skin problems and
effectively treating minor burns.
