Foods To Miss Which Help Acne Treatment
At this moment in time, it has to be acknowledged that there is no single Check List of foods to avoid that help with acne treatment, or makes a scientifically researched link between the skin condition we call acne, and any one food or group of foods. However, certain facts have been established and may prove a useful guide.
Acne is a condition which starts with skin becoming too oily. This is often caused by eating the wrong sorts of food containing too many saturated fats and trans fats. Many meat products come into this category, especially dairy and poultry. It should be borne in mind that not all fats are to be thought of as poor diet. The body needs a certain amount of fatty acids, and obtains them from sources such as flaxweed, most fish, and hempseed oil.
One common fallacy is to draw a direct link between acne and the consumption of too much chocolate and other sugar based sweets. Admittedly, chocolate does have a high saturated fat content, but it does not appear to be directly responsible for the problem.
One theory suggests that acne can be controlled by eating more protein in your diet. This will counter the over production of a specific enzyme which instructs the body to produce more oil, saturating the skin and clogging the pores.
It is not absolutely necessary to avoid consuming all types of oil and oily foods. For example, Vitamin A is known to alleviate acne, and this is found in all fish products. Zinc is also beneficial, and can be bought in tablet form to supplement foods which contain zinc. Many also recommend the drinking of any Green tea, which inhibits the production of androgens. These produce more oil in the skin, and clog the pores.
Milk and dairy products in general can be a problem. Cattle are routinely injected with hormones to enhance milk production, and these hormones will also tend to send signals to the body to produce more testosterone, causing further outbreaks of acne. Beef, pork and poultry are also hormone treated, and can cause similar problems.
Lists of foods to avoid would therefore include white bread, oily and fatty food such as chips crisps and mayonnaise. It might also be a good idea to avoid certain cereals and some salad dressings.
Rather than concentrate on the negative aspect of forbidden foods, one could consider drawing up a list which consists of foods considered good to eat. This positive list would begin with fresh fruit and vegetables and contain lean meats of all descriptions and seafood. Instead of meat, one may consider replacing this protein with soya products or tofu. For a balanced diet, a general rule suggests 30 per cent fats, 25 per cent protein and 45 per cent carbohydrates.
Good hygiene is just as important as careful diet planning for anyone who suffers from acne. It is essential to use a mild soap, particularly on delicate areas such as the delicate facial skin. Oil free cleansing agents should also be used at all times. Never use a washcloth, as the rough surface of a flannel or sponge rubbing across the skins likely to damage the surface, allowing acne to develop
Some studies have suggested that beneficial enzymes can be destroyed by cooking processes, and that cooking removes most of the nutrition in food. For this reason, there are a number of diets which are based upon eating food in a state which is as close as possible to its natural form. Our ancestors were hunter/gatherers and fed themselves with nuts, berries and other raw foods. It should be possible for modern man to do the same.
